Our plan for the morning was to visit Warham Camp and see what it had to offer. After parking our car in a convenient grassy layby near the entrance gate, we made our way through the first farm gate labelled Warham Camp. A short stroll along a path lined with ivy covered hedges led us to the information board and the entrance of the camp.

The information board provided details about the Iceni history, construction of the fort and wildlife, accompanied by a few illustrations. In order to reach the next field, we had to climb over a wooden stile besides the second wooden gate. As we approached, the impressive grassy mounds of the camp came into sight, with a stunning backdrop of wetlands and farmland. Fortunately, we were the only visitors this morning, allowing us to freely explore the area.

There were several stony chalk paths to choose from to reach the iron age fort, each varying in steepness. Opting for the steepest path, we enjoyed tackling the ascent with our young son who found the experience quite amusing. He was thrilled to be up high on the ramparts, overlooking horses grazing in the nearby fields, swans swimming in the wetlands, and Red Kites soaring above us.

The Fort is characterized by two large circular mounds, each with its own deep trench, separating the fort from the surrounding field and from each other. The walls of the mounds have grassy ripples and patches of stony chalk along the walkways and entrance paths.
Walking along the top path, one can't help but think about the people who built, worked, and lived in the Iron Age Fort at Warham Camp. The large circular grass clearing in the middle of the fort provides a great area to rest, picnic, and enjoy the surroundings.

It's also nice to see a large Holme Oak tree nestled along the inner perimeter, likely from Holkham Estate, known for being home to hundreds of this species of tree. Warham Camp is recommended for those interested in local history, offering a morning's activity exploring the Fort and enjoying the beautiful views of North Norfolk.
